I was reading online on babycenter.com about what the "average" 4 year old is doing when it comes to math and it was just too good to not share... Here's what it said:
Your 4-year-old now
The average 4-year-old can count up to ten, although he may not get the numbers in the right order every time. One big hang-up in going higher? Those pesky numbers like 11 and 20. The irregularity of their names doesn't make much sense to a preschooler.
Don't get caught up in trying to persuade your child to count much beyond ten or 20 right now. Most fours can't fully comprehend how larger numbers correspond to actual quantity. They usually count between four and ten objects correctly.
I'm guessing that means that counting by 2's, 5's, 10's, 100's, etc. is considered a "little bit" ahead?!!? The other day, when Nanny got lost driving to meet me at the finish line of my 20 mile training run, he counted from 1 to close to 800 on the way... just a tad over 20. LOL The boy is just plain AMAZING!!! And hey, I'm his mommy, so I CAN say that!
Today we had a great time playing at Chuck E. Cheese's with Jakey's sisters Hallie, Baby Lea and Abby and Sharon. Then we went to see the Lori Berkner band in Princeton and had a blast dancing and singing along with the music...especially Aunt Bear's favorite song... "Buzz, buzz, buzz..buzz, ba, buzz, buzz". It's is SO awesome that the kids are able to grow up together and we feel SO lucky to have our favorite 4 pack live so close by!!!!!
Pictures next time...promise!
Life with Jake...
